Faithful In Every Circumstance

So it was, when his master heard the words which his wife spoke to him, saying, “Your servant did to me after this manner,” that his anger was aroused. 20 Then Joseph’s master took him and put him into the prison, a place where the king’s prisoners were confined. And he was there in the prison. 21 But the LORD was with Joseph and showed him mercy, and He gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison. 22 And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph’s hand all the prisoners who were in the prison; whatever they did there, it was his doing. 23 The keeper of the prison did not look into anything that was under Joseph’s authority, because the LORD was with him; and whatever he did, the LORD made it prosper. Gen 39:19-23 NKJ

How devastating to be falsely accused. Joseph seemed to have one thing after another strike him. First his brothers sold him to slavery and then he had gained favor with His master and was in charge of everything. It says that LORD made all he did to prosper in his hand. Then because he was righteous and didn’t sleep with his master’s wife, when she propositioned him, it made her mad and she falsely accused him of trying to rape her. The master, who felt betrayed, threw him into prison.

Verse 21 says “But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him mercy and He gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.” Wow, it doesn’t say that God rescued Joseph from the liar...because He didn’t. It does say that God was with Joseph everywhere he went and gave him favor. God was with Joseph even in the depths of prison. (Like the old show, The A-team, it is all part of the “plan”)The amazing part to me is that Joseph remained faithful to serve God no matter his circumstance. He didn’t become bitter and he never quit serving the Lord Most High. He did his best.

I will cut to the end of the story...Joseph was taken from prison and placed second in command to the Pharaoh. He later was reunited with his family. You have to read Joseph’s story! It is amazing. Joseph was faithful to God no matter his circumstance. Was it a walk down easy street? Absolutely not! You will have to read this one for yourself to see all of the crazy details that only God could have worked out for Joseph’s good. Talk about miraculous...from prison to second in command to the Pharaoh, in one move, is huge alone. Then how Joseph’s dream (from when he was young)manifested with his family years later...makes me realize that some of the promises God has given to me that seem impossible is so very possible with the God I serve. My job is to be continually obedient to God and to keep my heart clean from bitterness no matter the circumstance and He will take care of the rest.

  1. Wow! What a lesson we all have to learn. Thanks for this great reminder of our need to be obedient to God no matter what! I needed this today.

You need to write more often -- like every day!
