1 Then Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. 2 Now behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus who was a chief tax collector, and he was rich. 3 And he sought to see who Jesus was, but could not because of the crowd, for he was of short stature. 4 So he ran ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see Him, for He was going to pass that way. 5 And when Jesus came to the place, He looked up and saw him,[a] and said to him, “Zacchaeus, make haste and come down, for today I must stay at your house.” 6 So he made haste and came down, and received Him joyfully. 7 But when they saw it, they all complained, saying, “He has gone to be a guest with a man who is a sinner.”8 Then Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord, I give half of my goods to the poor; and if I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation, I restore fourfold.” 9 And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham; 10 for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
Luke 19:1-9 NKJ

Whenever I read this story it reminds me of the song I sang when I was little! (Zacchaeus was a wee little man and a wee little man was he!) Zacchaeus lead a profitable corrupt life before he met Jesus. He didn't let his size stop him from getting what he wanted in life. He certainly didn't let it stop him from seeking out Jesus when he wanted to see Him! He sought out Jesus and what did Jesus do? He called his name and told him that He was going to his house to stay! Zacchaeus sought out Jesus and Jesus accepted him! Zacchaeus made things right with the tax payers....he found what he was really looking for, Jesus the Messiah.

There were people complaining that Jesus went to stay with a "sinner". I love it because Jesus nipped that right in the bud when He told Zacchaeus this, And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham; 10 for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

Jesus came to seek and save the lost! If you aren't lost how can you be found? Zacchaeus realized that he was lost... he sought out Jesus...he realized that he was lost (a sinner) and he made steps to resolve those issues... the people who complained were complaining that Jesus went to stay with Zacchaeus, the sinner, but didn't they recognise that they themselves were sinners?

I am glad that Jesus came to save the lost, the imperfect! Because I fit in that category. Jesus reaches out to those who seek Him...I seek Him!!! YAY! I might not be short in stature like Zacchaeus but I do have shortcomings. I am glad that I serve a King who doesn't look at my shortcomings but He looks beyond them and sees something valuable. I am so glad that Jesus didn't come for the "altogether people" but he came to save the lost. All you have to do is seek Him and He will help you right where you are.
